Corten steel water features do not need painting or full sealing—the natural passivation (patina) forms a dense, self-protecting armor that prevents deep corrosion. Ordinary paints trap moisture, causing crevice corrosion and peeling. Only four scenarios require localized breathable sealants: tight project deadlines needing immediate uniform color, high-end light-colored paving at risk of rust stains, coastal salt-spray zones within 5km, or water tanks with prolonged stagnant water. For most gardens and commercial projects, leave bare. Use structural solutions like dry-wet separation liners and magnetic filtration instead of fragile coatings. Avoid generic varnish. Choose SPA-H grade steel with 2mm+ thickness.
